The White House is the official residency of the President of the United States of America. It has come to be a symbol of the Presidency, the United States government, and the American people.

In the year 1790, President George Washington, chose the site for the new residence, which is now 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Construction began 1792 and while President Washington oversaw the construction of the house, he never lived in it. The first residents were President John Adams and his family, who moved into the White house in 1800.

The White House is open to the public for arranged tours. The White House is also the personal home of the President, so each President can express his individual style in how they decorate some parts of the house and in how they receive the public during their stay.

Some interesting stats -

The White House has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases, and 3 elevators.
